MENTAL HEALTH IS A UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHT – 10 October 2023

October The 10th commemorates World Mental Health Day (WMHD) annually. Observing this day aims to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health as a universal human right. This year, society has the opportunity to unite behind the theme ‘Mental Health is a universal human right”.

Good mental health plays an important role to our overall health and well-being. Yet 1 in 8 people globally are living with mental health conditions, which can impact their physical health, how they connect with others, and their daily functionality. Mental health is a basic human right, and everyone has a right to the best standard of mental healthcare without any discrimination.

781 million adults worldwide cannot read or write, – critical mental health information is shared through brochures and pamphlets which often overlooks those that have difficulty reading.

Through information shared, many individuals can learn vital facts to prevent mental illness, learn coping and self-care tips, to help people live fulfilled lives and to even save many lives.
